WHAT TRAINING DO I NEED?

You are considered fully trained if you complete the following 2 courses online at http://my.scouting.org.

1. Youth Protection Training (YPT);

2  Position-Specific Training  (e.g. Tiger Den Leader, Den Leader, Assistant Den Leader, Committee Member, etc.)

Both Den Leaders and Assistant Den Leaders should complete both courses.  The YPT is around 30 minutes long.  The position-specific training depends on which position, but are built around a collection of ~10 minute modules (details here).  This online training is FREE and available to all parents, not just the leaders, so anyone else who is interested can go online and take the courses.

All the gory details about training can be found here:  http://www.scouting.org/Training.aspx

Boy Scouts is very serious about the Youth Protection training, and we may have to give copies of those certificates to the Council this year to prove that our parents have this training.

Below are the three steps for completing training:

1. CREATE A MY.SCOUTING ACCOUNT

Go to http://my.scouting.org

Click the "Create Account" button and follow the prompts.

When asked "Do you know your Member Number?" select No because, at the moment,

you do not yet have your Boy Scouts of America ID.  We will fix this in step three.

Once you have created your account profile, you are ready for step two...

2.  LOGIN AND TAKE THE TRAINING

Go to http://my.scouting.org and login using the username and password created in Step 1.

For Youth Protection Training, click on the large logo on the upper right and the training will start immediately. It only takes 24:15 minutes to complete.

After you finish, you may be asked for our Unit Number; it is P416.  Print your certificate.

To access all other Training modules, Click on "Menu" at the top left of the screen, then Select "My Dashboard" which should take you to "My Training" screen.

Click the "Training Center".  Then click the "Cub Scouting" logo.  Click on the Training class you would like to take, which will take you to a new page called the ScoutingU training center.  (it may ask you to re-enter your my.scouting.org username and password).

Click again on the Cub Scouting logo, and then at the bottom of the page, click on "Select a Training Program".  (pick which one you want, e.g. Tiger Den Leader Training)

This will typically pull up three "Learning Plans," which are to be completed as indicted by the names: (1) Before the First Meeting, (2) First 30 Days, and (3) Position Trained.   Click the "plus" (+) sign next to each learning plan to add it to your My Learning tab (essentially your training "cart").  Click on the My Learning link to go back and see the classes in your "cart".

From here, you can click on each Learning Plan and work your way through the various modules.  You can start/stop at any time, and the system records your progress without having to manually save anything.

Be sure to save a copy of your training certificate at the end, especially the Youth Protection Training.

3.  ASSOCIATE YOUR BSA MEMBER ID WITH THE MY.SCOUTING AND SCOUTBOOK ACCOUNTS

All leaders are required to be registered (and background screened) by the Boy Scouts of America.  Please fill out and submit a BSA Adult Application.  Once the BSA processes your application and assigns you a BSA Membership number, you should log
back into http://my.scouting.org and add your number to your profile.  (Also add your number to your Scoutbook.com account).

a) Go to http://my.scouting.org and login using the username and password created in Step 1.

Click on "Menu" at the top left of the screen, then Select "My Dashboard" which should take you to "My Training" screen.

Click on the top menu bar, where it says "My Training" and then click on "My Profile".  Click on the Member ID and enter your BSA Member Number.  Be sure to update your other information as well.

You may be asked for your Council.  We are the North Florida Council - Jacksonville #087.

b) Go to scoutbook.com and login with your email and password.  From "My Dashboard", click on My Account --> Edit Profile.  Enter your BSA Member Number (down at bottom), and click "Update".   This will now synch our Scoutbook with your official BSA training records.

4.  LET THE COMMITTEE CHAIR KNOW YOU COMPLETED TRAINING

Please let the committee know that you finished training so we can celebrate your awesomeness appropriately!  If you are taking Youth Protection Training for the first time, please email your certificate to the Committee Chair (chair@pack416.us).  We need this form to process your Adult Application.

Thanks so much for your service to the pack and our kids.
